How To Sing With Emotion

Hi! I hope that you're having a great day!

Singing is a huge part of musical theater.

And especially with cast recordings, being able to express emotions through a song is essential.

Being able to express your character's feelings through singing can also help you in auditions because a lot of times you need to sing to get a part in a musical and the panel must be able to feel what you are feeling.

And because of that, I will be sharing some tips that helped me act better while singing.

I hope these tips help any theater kids like me or theater adults.

Enjoy!

Write

I learned this a while ago and it has been a game-changer.

You basically just need to print/write down the lyrics and then write down the feeling/how to act at that part of the song.

I usually write a "comment" for every line, but you could also write one for each paragraph.

This can also be helpful to remember your routine because you can write the movements and dance steps you need to do in that part of the song.

Audience

One of my acting teachers told me that to have a play/musical you only need a performer and an audience. And that's so true.

We need fancy clothes or lights to have a good show.

And this connection with the audience can help a lot with sharing emotions through songs.

And this connection can be build by staring.

It sounds weird but you should stare at a random person while singing an emotional and emotional part of the song.

It helps you concentrate while singing and will make the audience feel more connected, therefore making them feel more what you are feeling.

Past

A big part of acting is knowing your character's past and being able to share that past through your lines and songs.

While you are singing try to think about their lives and the things they have been trough.

I hope these tips help you perform better!
